Wife Allegedly Stabs Husband To Death in Domestic Dispute

Nairobi, Kenya – Damaris Nthoki is facing accusations of unlawfully causing the death of her husband, Shadrack Mutinda Makau, during a fight that occurred last month. The incident took place following a domestic dispute in their home.

Reports suggest that Makau had returned home drunk at around 8 pm and began asking his wife questions. He inquired about the caretaker’s son collecting rent and whether she had bought maize flour and vegetables. Nthoki replied that she had not seen the caretaker’s son and did not have money for the items.

Makau informed her that he had left Sh500 on top of the cupboard and instructed her to spend only Sh150 on flour and vegetables. However, when Nthoki returned from a kiosk where she had bought vegetables, a dispute arose regarding the remaining money.

The argument escalated into a physical altercation, during which Nthoki allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed her husband in the thigh. After the fight, Makau left the house but later returned, apologized, and collapsed on the floor. Nthoki believed he was unconscious due to his intoxication and went to sleep.

The following day, Nthoki informed her neighbors that her husband was still unconscious. Authorities were alerted, and officers from Huruma Police Station arrived at the scene, discovering Makau’s lifeless body in the house. A bloodstained knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, was found, leading to Nthoki’s arrest.

An autopsy conducted later confirmed that Makau’s cause of death was excessive bleeding from the stab wound. Nthoki denied the charges in court and was granted bail with a surety. The case is set for mention in November, with a trial scheduled for April next year.
