Police Hunt Witch Doctor Over Poisoning, Death of Businessman

Police in Mitooma district are hunting for a witch doctor who allegedly connived with three others to poison and kill a 45-year-old businessman, Emmanuel Nshimeyimana in Butagatsi village.  

The suspects include Ruth Muhairwe, Nshimeyimana’s wife, Patrick Mukisa, and the witch doctor only identified as Kabyogamo. Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson Marcial Tumusiime explains that Nsimeyimana, his wife Muhairwe and Mukisa came from Kakumiro in search of traditional healers to track people who had allegedly broken into their shop. 

The trio ended up at the home of Kabyogamu, a renowned conman, who allegedly gave them an intoxicated drink after taking Shs 500,000 cash from them. Nsimeyimana died in a house belonging to the witch doctor moments after taking the said drink.  

Ruti 1 village chairperson Venensio Kansiiime, said the body was picked from the house by Kabyogamu’s friends and dumped in Kashenshero sub county.  Kansiime said that the deceased was identified by passersby who had seen him enter Kabyogamu’s house with two other people who were also on the run. 

Tumusiime said the body was recovered from Ruti where it had been dumped and delivered to Kitagata hospital in Sheema for post-mortem as investigations take shape to have the suspects arrested and taken to courts of law.
