Corruption: Two OPM Bosses Remanded To Luzira Prison Over UGX689 Million Theft

The Anti-Corruption Court has remanded two local Government Officials to Luzira prison after being charged with Corruption related offences.

The suspects include 37 year old Dathan Muwagaba Kahima project Engineering officer under Development Response to Displacement impacts project (DRDIP) office of the Prime minister and 45 year old Pamela Besigye District Engineering Assistant under DRDIP in the OPM office.

The duo appeared before grade one magistrate Ebert Asiimwe and denied charges including; Corruption, Bribery of a Public Official, Abuse of office and corruptly procuring tenders.

These are charged with soliciting and receiving 689.3 million shillings from people and companies for jobs in the said project which state says prejudiced other qualified persons.

Muwagaba and Besigye are said to have committed the said offences between February 2021 and June 2022 while in performance of their duties.Prosecution informed court that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

They have been remanded until Wednesday when they will return in court for their bail ruling.
