Namisindwa, UG: – In a vibrant display of community spirit and athletic prowess, Dr Khanakwa Sarah (PhD), head of the Department for Resource Mobilisation at the Uganda Aids Commission (UAC) has addressed the youth of Namisindwa District, urging them to embrace sports for both their health and economic benefits. The call to action came during a well-attended football match between Lwakhakha United and Kaboyi FC on Sunday evening.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Dr Khanakwa highlighted the economic potential of sports.
“Use your time and talents in sports development. It’s an economic activity that can offer a decent salary while also creating bonds and networks with people at the international level,” she advised.
Dr. Khanakwa emphasized the vital role that sports play in maintaining good health.
“Sports help with our health. The more active you are, the more you avoid diseases that come with lack of exercise,” she stated passionately.
Her comments align with expert opinions that regular physical activity is crucial in preventing and treating noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and certain cancers, including breast and colon cancer.
“Sports is also a unifying factor as it brings people together irrespective of race or political affiliation,” Dr. Khanakwa remarked, noting how such events foster community cohesion and mutual respect among diverse groups.

Holding a portfolio of resource mobilization for over 10 years, for one of the most pressing problems that Uganda has ever encountered (HIV/AIDS), means that she has mastered the art of resource mobilization and developing partnerships – a skill that is much needed as she guides on strategies to raise additional revenues to mitigate the growing development challenges in Namisindwa District in particular and the country at large.
