Namutumba — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has hailed Busoga Sub-region for its historic role in Uganda’s liberation struggle and outlined a series of key road projects scheduled for construction in the next financial year.
Addressing residents in Namutumba on Monday, the President, accompanied by First Lady Janet Museveni said Busoga was among the regions where resistance to Idi Amin first took shape.
He paid tribute to fallen cadres who supported the liberation effort, noting that several Busoga fighters, including Nkooko and Ntale, were executed in Jinja for aiding the resistance.
Museveni said the National Resistance Movement’s greatest contribution to Uganda over the last four decades has been the restoration of peace, which he described as the “first brick” in building a stable state.
“NRM is synonymous with peace. Without peace, there can be no development or prosperity,” he said.
The President underscored development as the second major pillar of the NRM’s legacy, citing national infrastructure projects that have transformed connectivity across the country.
He highlighted the completion of the Nakalama–Busembatya–Tirinyi–Mbale Road, noting that it eliminated the need for travellers to pass through Tororo when heading to Mbale, unless continuing to Kenya.
He announced that several new road projects touching Namutumba and surrounding districts are already programmed for commencement in the next financial year. These include the Nabumali–Namutumba Road, Busembatya–Namakoko Road, and the Kaliro–Namutumba–Mazuba Road.
Museveni directed his Principal Private Secretary (PPS), Ms Gloria Asio Omaswa, to follow up with district and local leaders to ensure the timely implementation of all pledges made during the rally.
The President will on Monday continue his Busoga campaign trail with rallies in Buyende and Kaliro, where he is expected to further deliver the NRM’s “Protecting the Gains” message ahead of the 2026 general elections.
