Entebbe — The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, hosted His Excellency Hugues Chantry, the Ambassador of Belgium to Uganda, at the Special Forces Headquarters in Entebbe on Monday, November 10, 2025, in a meeting that highlighted the growing security and diplomatic collaboration between the two nations.
The engagement follows a previous meeting between the two leaders in September 2024, signaling the continuity of high-level dialogue on issues of mutual interest.
During the discussions, both sides explored avenues for strengthening bilateral security cooperation, regional stability, and strategic partnerships that support peacekeeping and counter-terrorism efforts in East Africa.
Speaking after the meeting, Ambassador Chantry commended Uganda’s proactive role in promoting regional peace and stability.
“Uganda continues to play a vital role in advancing security and stability in the region,” he said. “Belgium remains committed to supporting initiatives that enhance peace and security across East Africa.”

General Muhoozi highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration with partner nations like Belgium to enhance Uganda’s capacity in defense, intelligence, and regional peacekeeping operations.
He emphasized that Uganda’s partnership with Belgium has been longstanding, formally anchored in a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 1995, which has guided cooperation in security, defense training, and capacity building over the decades.
The meeting covered a wide range of issues, including joint training programs, intelligence sharing, and technical assistance aimed at strengthening Uganda’s defense infrastructure and operational readiness. Both parties affirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration in emerging security challenges, including counter-terrorism, maritime security, and peacekeeping operations under the African Union and United Nations mandates.

Observers note that such high-level engagements reflect Uganda’s strategic efforts to maintain strong diplomatic and security partnerships with European allies while promoting regional stability in the Great Lakes region.
The visit also provides a platform to discuss ongoing initiatives that support Belgium’s diplomatic, humanitarian, and developmental interests in Uganda, particularly in areas related to regional security, governance, and conflict resolution.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both leaders agreeing to continue regular consultations and exchanges to ensure that bilateral relations remain robust and mutually beneficial.
