A man who removed a condom during sex without his partner’s consent, an act known as “stealthing,” has been sentenced to over four years in prison.

Guy Mukendi, 39, from Brixton, South London, was found guilty of rape at Inner London Crown Court earlier this year.

The victim had consented to sex with Mukendi on the condition that he used a condom. However, Mukendi removed the condom without her knowledge or consent. Text messages presented to the jury revealed that Mukendi admitted to removing the condom because he had not had sex in a long time.

The court heard that the victim realized what had happened and immediately contacted the police. Forensic evidence and Mukendi’s text messages were critical in securing the conviction.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police emphasized the importance of reporting such crimes promptly.

“The victim did the right thing by calling the police straight away, and her bravery should not be overshadowed,” the spokesperson said. “This case demonstrates our dedication to securing justice for victims of stealthing, which is unequivocally classified as rape.”

Mukendi was found guilty on April 2, 2024, and sentenced on Thursday to four years and three months in prison. Additionally, the victim has been granted a five-year restraining order against him.

The case has garnered significant attention, highlighting the legal system’s recognition of stealthing as a serious sexual offence.

Authorities encourage any victims of non-consensual condom removal to report the crime immediately to maximize the chances of preserving crucial evidence.
