Electoral Commission Kicks Off Nomination Process for Special Interest Groups

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Uganda has announced that nominations for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in Parliament, covering Youths, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Workers, and Older Persons, will take place on 22nd and 23rd October 2025.

The nominations will be conducted at the EC Headquarters in Kampala, marking an important step in the electoral calendar leading up to the 2025/2026 General Elections.

This process provides a unique opportunity for representatives of these groups to participate directly in shaping legislation that affects their communities.

Candidates intending to contest for parliamentary seats must submit their nomination forms and adhere to the detailed guidelines provided by the EC. The forms and instructions are available on the EC’s official website at ec.or.ug, ensuring transparency and accessibility for all interested participants.

The SIG parliamentary seats are designed to give a voice to segments of society that often face challenges in mainstream political processes.

By engaging in this nomination process, youths, PWDs, workers, and older persons can actively influence decision-making, advocate for their rights, and bring attention to issues that are critical to their lives.

The EC has emphasized the importance of fairness, inclusivity, and adherence to the rules throughout the nomination process. Candidates are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the guidelines to ensure their submissions are valid and complete. This step is seen as crucial in promoting democratic representation and empowering marginalized groups in Uganda’s political landscape.

As the nomination dates approach, interest is expected to grow, with many prospective candidates preparing to make their mark. For those seeking to stand for election, this is a significant moment to step forward and contribute to shaping policies that reflect the needs and aspirations of Uganda’s diverse population.
