In a major move to enhance efficiency in national ID processing, the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has procured four state-of-the-art card printing machines, each with the capacity to produce up to 3,000 national IDs per hour. This development is expected to significantly reduce delays and improve service delivery across the country.
Peter Okwalinga, an official from NIRA’s Public Relations Department, confirmed the acquisition, stating that the advanced machines will play a crucial role in the upcoming National ID mass enrollment and renewal exercise.
“The arrival of these high-speed printers is a game-changer in our efforts to eliminate bottlenecks in national ID issuance. With this latest addition to our infrastructure, we are well-prepared for the mass registration exercise, which will be conducted at the parish level,” Okwalinga explained.

NIRA has also received over 5,000 biometric registration kits, which have been instrumental in the training of Registration Assistants and Registration Officers. The training has been designed to equip staff with the technical knowledge required to handle the large-scale registration process efficiently.
“Our training program has been thorough, ensuring that all frontline staff are prepared to facilitate the mass registration exercise effectively. As part of our commitment to maintaining high service standards, trainees underwent exit assessments to evaluate their readiness. The results of these tests will help guide deployment strategies for optimal service delivery,” Okwalinga added.

With these technological advancements, NIRA is set to streamline the national ID registration process, reinforcing its commitment to providing timely and reliable identification services to all Ugandans.
“The delays that previously hampered the process are being addressed, and the improvements we are making are clear indicators of our dedication to a smooth and efficient registration exercise,” Okwalinga remarked.

This latest investment underscores NIRA’s resolve to modernize its operations and ensure that every eligible Ugandan can access their national identification card without unnecessary delays.
