Woman Arrested for Stealing 3-Day-Old Baby at Pakwach Health Centre IV

Police in Pakwach District have arrested a woman, identified as Teddy Gipatho alias Patricia, for allegedly stealing a 3-day-old baby from Pakwach Health Centre IV.

According to police reports, the suspect entered the facility pretending to be heavily pregnant. She sat next to the bed of a mother who had recently delivered via Caesarean section and later disappeared with the newborn on December 8, 2024.

The baby’s parents, Patricia Afoyorwoth and Jonathan Agenonga, residents of Apapariyo “12” Village in Wadelai Sub-County, reported the missing child to police. Authorities immediately launched an investigation.

West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Collins Asea, confirmed the incident, stating that the baby was found alive in a garden at Pajobi North Cell, Puvungu West Ward, Pakwach Town Council, following a thorough interrogation of the suspect, who confessed to the crime.

“The child was located alive in a garden at Pajobi North Cell at approximately 7:00 a.m. and reunited with her mother after a medical check confirmed her health,” SP Asea said.

The case is registered under reference number CRB/706/2024. Police commended the community for their collaboration and assured the public that the case will be pursued to its logical conclusion.

Authorities have urged parents to remain vigilant and closely monitor their children during the festive season, as some individuals may exploit opportunities to commit such crimes.
