Big Move! CECAFA U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers to be Hosted at Nakivubo Hamz Stadium

Kampala, Uganda – The stage is set for an exciting showdown as the CECAFA region gears up for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers. The matches will be hosted at the newly renovated Nakivubo Hamz Stadium and the St. Mary’s Stadium, bringing together top footballing talent from East and Central Africa.

The tournament kicks off on December 14, 2024, featuring two groups: Group A and Group B. Group A comprises Ethiopia, Burundi, Tanzania, and Uganda, while Group B includes Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, and Sudan.

Group Stage Matches

The opening day promises thrilling encounters, with Ethiopia taking on Burundi at 2:00 PM and hosts Uganda clashing with Tanzania at 5:00 PM. Group B action begins the following day, December 15, as South Sudan faces Kenya at 2:00 PM, followed by Somalia versus Sudan at 5:00 PM.

The group stage matches will conclude on December 21, 2024, determining which teams advance to the semi-finals.

Knockout Rounds

The semi-finals are set for December 24, 2024, with the first match at 2:00 PM and the second at 5:00 PM. The winners will proceed to the highly anticipated final, scheduled for December 27, 2024, at 4:00 PM. A third-place playoff will also take place earlier that day at 1:00 PM.

Venue and Atmosphere

Nakivubo Hamz Stadium, a historic venue in Uganda, will host the majority of the games, with a few matches played at the nearby St. Mary’s Stadium. This tournament marks a significant moment for the stadium, showcasing its readiness to host international events following extensive renovations.

The CECAFA Qualifiers serve as a pathway for teams to secure a spot in the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament not only highlights young talent but also fosters regional unity through sport.
