Over 150 Arrested in Kampala Metropolitan Police Crackdown on Violent Crime

Kampala Metropolitan Police have carried out an intelligence-led operation in various areas, and 80 suspects were arrested and three motorcycles were recovered.

In Kabalagala division, on June 10, between 1600 and 0100, an intelligence-led operation was carried out by a team of crime intelligence and a flying squad in the areas of Wabigalo parish, Kisugu, Kibuli, and Namuwongo. 

The operation was targeting thugs robbing people using motorcycles, hitting them with pavers, and cutting them with pangas, among others.

The operation was also targeting promoters who buy stolen properties like mobile phones.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango says a total of 48 suspects were apprehended.

Still in Kabalagala on June 11, 2024, a total of eight (08) notorious criminals have been apprehended and they are;

In Matugga, on June 10, 2024, at around 0030 hrs, a joint operation with UPDF was conducted and they were targeting criminal gangs who met at one identified dark spot at Mabanda cell.

They converge to smoke opium and chew Mira popularly known as Nkwacho then late in the night they attack people and terrorize the community by snatching their belongings, especially phones, bags and cash. 

A total of 23 suspects were arrested and detained at Matugga police station, of whom two were female.
A joint screening was carried out together with LCs, intelligence, and other stakeholders, and nine suspects were cautioned and released.

A total of 13 suspects were charged with having opium and attempting to commit a felony.
These were obtained with exhibits that included marijuana.

The suspects include:
1. Mutebi Bakar 18 years old, a resident of Mabanda
2. Senogga Eric, 23 years old, is a resident of Kito.
3. Kintu Sulaiman, aged 27 years, is a resident of Kito.
4. Elelu Michael, aged 31 years, is a surviving security guard and a resident of Kigogwa.
5. Jjunju Paul, aged 27 years, is a resident of Mabanda.
6. Musinguzi James, 22 years old, is a resident of Mabanda.
7. Ssesazi Nicholas, 35 years old, is a resident of Kitto.
8. Ssemogerere Isaac, 20 years old, is a resident of Mabanda.
9. Silas Mario, 23 years old, is a resident of Kitto.
10. Isingoma Fred, 25, a resident of Mabanda
11. Musana Bosco 19 years old, a resident of Mabanda
12. Mukisa Rogers, aged 20 years, is a resident of Mabanda. 
13. Mubonera Robert, aged 21 years, is a resident of Kito.

“The operation will continue in other areas within Kampala Metropolitan,” said Onyango.
