President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has responded strongly to allegations made by the British High Commissioner, asserting that the UK cannot falsely accuse any Ugandan without repercussions.

In response to the accusations levelled against Parliament’s Speaker, Anita Among, of owning undisclosed properties in London, President Museveni has directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gen Jeje Odongo, and the Attorney-General, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, to provide him with detailed information regarding the matter.

The British government’s decision to impose sanctions on Speaker Among and two other ministers, accusing them of corruption, has further escalated tensions between Uganda and the UK.

However, Deputy Inspectorate General of Government (IGG), Dr. Patricia Achan Akiria, has refuted these claims, stating that, according to official records, Speaker Among does not own any property in the UK.

Speaker Among herself has vehemently denied the accusations, stating that she does not possess any property, not even “a cat,” in the UK. Her firm stance reflects the seriousness with which she regards these allegations and her determination to clear her name.

As diplomatic tensions continue to simmer, it remains to be seen how both countries will navigate this delicate situation.
