Bukedi Leaders Urged to Drive Wealth Creation, Modern Farming by Museveni

Pallisa: Over 10,000 leaders from Bukedi sub-region gathered at Pallisa Secondary School playground on Sunday, 7th December 2025, to participate in a mobilisation meeting aimed at advancing socio-economic development and reinforcing support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni used the occasion to call upon the leaders to actively promote wealth creation, modern farming, value addition, and enterprise development across the sub-region. He stressed that individual and household wealth is key to sustainable job creation and overall national growth.

“This is something we are going to promote aggressively here in the Bukedi region. When individuals get rich, the whole country gets rich,” the President said, urging leaders to guide communities toward productive activities. He highlighted commercial agriculture, factories, ICT, and services as critical avenues for generating household incomes.

President Museveni also pledged government support for fish farming, noting that boosting local production would empower communities and increase revenue at the household level.

He further tasked leaders to ensure government programmes, including the Parish Development Model and Emyooga initiatives, reach the households that need them most.

The President encouraged voters in Pallisa and surrounding districts to support the NRM in the 2026 elections, outlining the party’s seven contributions over the last 40 years: peace, development of social and physical infrastructure, wealth creation, job creation, market expansion, regional integration, and community empowerment.

Addressing security concerns, Museveni pledged support to families affected by attacks from the Force Obote Back Again (FOBA) rebel group, stating that compensation for victims’ families remains a government priority. He also warned leaders to uphold peace, recalling the disruptions caused by past rebel activity in Tororo.

On governance and development, the President advised MPs and local leaders to prioritise projects strategically, noting that careful planning ensures effective implementation and avoids wastage. “One by one makes a bundle. You either prioritise or make mistakes,” he said, adding that the government would continue providing start-up capital to support community initiatives.

Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, Speaker of Parliament and NRM’s Second National Vice Chairperson, thanked President Museveni for attending the meeting and pledged continued collaboration with local leaders to boost development.

She also praised the President for raising LCI chairpersons’ monthly salaries from Shs10,000 to Shs100,000 and called on them to actively convey the wealth creation message to their communities.

The meeting brought together leaders from Pallisa, Tororo, Busia, Butebo, Butaleja, and Kibuku districts, highlighting the NRM’s focus on mobilising grassroots leadership to sustain socio-economic transformation in Uganda’s eastern region.
