Tanzania is hosting a week-long field training exercise for 670 senior police officers from the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO), a regional police body comprising chiefs of police from 14 African countries.

According to David Misime, spokesperson for the Tanzania Police Force, the training aims to bolster the fight against transnational crime, including terrorism, money laundering, and human and drug trafficking.

Scheduled to take place at the Moshi Police Academy in the Kilimanjaro Region from April 13 to 18, the exercise will provide participants with essential skills and strategies to combat these pressing security challenges effectively.

Misime emphasized that the training will also focus on enhancing the capacity of police officers to exchange intelligence reports among EAPCCO member countries.

By fostering collaboration and information-sharing among law enforcement agencies across the region, the initiative seeks to strengthen regional security cooperation and address cross-border criminal activities more efficiently.

The 670 senior police officers come from EAPCCO member countries of Burundi, the Comoros, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
