The Minister of State for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, Hon. David Bahati, who also serves as the NRM chairman for Kabale district, has inaugurated the NRM party register update in Kabale District.

Addressing key NRM leaders from Kabale at the National Teachers College, Bahati highlighted that 2026 is poised to be a pivotal year due to the party’s readiness. He expressed his belief that 2026 will mark a significant victory for President Museveni in Uganda.

“In the previous 2021 election, the NRM party recorded 10 million voters, yet our president managed to secure victory with just 5 million votes. Where did the remaining voters go? It is now our responsibility to rally our supporters who have not yet registered as NRM members to participate and vote overwhelmingly in this upcoming historic election. Those who abstain from voting forfeit their constitutional right to select their leaders,” Bahati remarked.

The minister also urged members to shun internal conflicts. He emphasized the need for the NRM party to strive for sustained existence and continuous growth in influence.

Bahati pointed to Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM), a successful Tanzanian political party, and the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa as models for the NRM to follow.

“We have witnessed revolutionary political parties excel but eventually collapse. This will not be the fate of the NRM. We must fortify it, foster unity over discord, and steer clear of disintegration like KANU of Kenya and others, such as UPC which only has five members in Kabale. NRM must endure even beyond the Museveni era,” Bahati emphasized.

A week earlier, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who also serves as the National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), initiated the party register update at the NRM party headquarters in Kampala. During the launch, Museveni was the first to update his party credentials, reaffirming his membership status. If President Museveni secures victory in the 2026 elections, he will have governed Uganda for a record-breaking 45 years, with his new term concluding in 2031.
