Uganda and Saudi Arabia have solidified their relations by signing a bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), marking a pivotal step toward enhanced air travel connectivity between the two nations. The agreement, formalized on November 10, 2023, during the Saudi-Africa Summit held in Riyadh, is set to bolster air services and collaboration in the aviation sector.

The accord aims to streamline and improve air services between the two countries, offering new opportunities for airlines from Uganda and Saudi Arabia. Notably, airlines such as Uganda Airlines, Saudia, and Flynas among others are expected to benefit significantly from the provisions outlined in this agreement.

Representing Uganda at the signing were officials from the Ministry of Works and Transport (MoWT) and Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), led by Benon Kajuna, Director of Transport. On the Saudi Arabian side, representatives from the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) were present, led by Ali Mohammed Rajab, Executive Vice President of Air Transport and International Cooperation.

The agreement is expected to pave the way for more streamlined operations of scheduled international air services between Uganda and Saudi Arabia. It signifies a commitment to fostering greater connectivity, facilitating travel, and potentially boosting economic ties and cultural exchange between the two nations.

This accord arrives as a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to bolster international partnerships and enhance air travel connectivity, opening new avenues for collaboration in the aviation industry between Uganda and Saudi Arabia.

The agreement is anticipated to usher in a new era of air travel efficiency, improved services, and increased accessibility between the two countries, benefiting travelers and airlines alike.
