The president of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Eng. Moses Hashim Magogo has confirmed that Milutin Sredojević Micho will stay at the helm of the Uganda Cranes as head coach amidst public calls for his sacking.

In a presser held today morning at the FUFA house in Mengo Kampala, the Federation president noted that the national team may not be registering good results but critical decisions based on emotions cannot be made.

“What has made us (FUFA) stand the test of time is that we are not emotional when taking decisions, if we took them emotionally so many things could have gone wrong,” he stated.

He added that the federation will analyze the performance of the technical team after the AFCON2023.

When FUFA called for a press conference earlier this week, everyone’s expectation was that the moment for Micho to leave had come.

Magogo also pointed out that FUFA has heard voices calling for the retirement of some players who he thinks may still have more to offer to the team.

“We are in the middle of a transition, which is normal even in the most organized clubs & teams. Let us be patient with these players and introduce the youngsters gradually,” Magogo said.

Recently, the Uganda cranes performance has been unpleasant after a group stage knockout from the CHAN championship in January 2023.

Currently, the cranes stand in the third position of Group F of the Afcon 2023 qualifiers having played Four matches with one win (against Tanzania 1 – 0), lost two (against Algeria 2 – 0 & Tanzania 1 – 0) and one all draw against limping Niger.

Since his return on 27th July 2021, the Serbian football gaffer has been in charge of the team for 29 matches (including friendlies), winning 8, drawing 11 and has lost 10.

Micho is famously remembered for guiding the Uganda Cranes to 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, breaking a 39-year jinx during his 2013-2017 spell.

Additionally, the FUFA president revealed the decisions taken in regard to positions of the national teams at the 28th Executive Committee meeting held on 18th March 2023.

Magogo revealed that the Uganda Cranes assistant coach will now double as the head coach of the U23 National Team while the goalkeeping coach and fitness trainer at the Uganda Cranes will head their respective departments, covering the rest of the national teams and will be full-time employees of the FA.

Additionally, The Head coach of the Uganda U20 (The Hippos) will be employed on fulltime basis and will also be the head of the junior teams’ docket and the Head coach of the Senior Women’s National Team (Crested Cranes) will be assisted by coaches of the U20 (Queen Cranes) and U17 (Teen Cranes) as Goalkeeping coaches and fitness trainers across all the national teams are as well vacant and the President called on competent Ugandans to apply for the jobs.
