A Kampala City Lawyer was shot dead by unknown assailants on Tuesday night, Police have confirmed.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire says that the “tragic incident of murder by shooting occurred on the night of May 30, 2023, at Kitiko Birongo, Ndejje Division, Makindye Sebagabo in Wakiso District.”

He added: “The victim has been identified as Mukisa Ronnie, a 45-year-old lawyer working at IBC Advocates located in Namanda Plaza, Kampala.”

According to the preliminary information received by the police, Mukisa would often return home late.

“However, on the night of the incident, he arrived at the apartment parking lot at approximately 2300 hours (11:30 p.m.),” said Owoyesigyire.

“After parking his dark blue Subaru Legacy with registration number UBJ 006K, Mr. Mukisa proceeded to close the gate,” he added.

“It was during his return to the apartment that neighbours heard gunshots, prompting them to investigate the commotion.”

Owoyesigyire further said statements from eyewitnesses have indicated that an “unidentified individual was seen shooting at Mr. Mukisa before briefly withdrawing, only to return and shoot him at close range multiple times in the head.”

The assailant quickly fled the scene and escaped on a waiting motorcycle, the direction of which remains unknown.

Pictures seen by this website show the victim’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood next to his car registration number, UBJ 006K.

The incident comes amid increased cases of gun violence in the country.

Uganda’s famous vlogger, Ibrahim Tusubilwa, alias Isma Jaja Iculi, was killed on March 6 in Kampala under mysterious circumstances.

He was also ambushed and shot dead outside his residence in Kyanja, Kampala. The assassins, just like in Isma’s case, also fled on a waiting motorcycle.

These gun deaths have raised concerns about the presence of an organized criminal gang in the country, taking out people’s lives at will.

Police have yet to arrest suspects in Isma’s murder.

Owoyesigyire said Kajjansi Police Station took immediate action upon receiving the report of the incident.

“A team was dispatched to the scene, followed by the introduction of canines to aid in the investigation,” said Owoyesigyire, adding, “Despite their efforts, the scent was lost along the way.”

However, a search of the crime scene led to the recovery of four projectiles and cartridges.

Police said the body of Mukisa was subsequently retrieved and transported to the city mortuary at Mulago National Referral Hospital for postmortem examination.

“Kajjansi Police Station is currently conducting inquiries to gather further information and establish the motive behind this heinous crime,” said Owoyesigyire.

“We assure the public that every effort is being made to apprehend the perpetrator(s) and bring them to justice. We urge anyone with relevant information regarding this incident to come forward and assist the police in their investigation,” he emphasised.
