Kampala, Uganda — Phiona Nagasha, a passionate advocate for African culture, is on a mission to take African traditional dance to the global stage.
With a deep-rooted belief in the power of music and performance to communicate cultural identity, Nagasha is determined to use her knowledge and talent to elevate African dance and promote its appreciation worldwide.
Driven by purpose and faith, Nagasha views traditional exhibits and dance not only as artistic expressions but also as vital instruments for cultural education and pride.
Her ultimate goal is to establish an international institution dedicated solely to African traditional dances and performances—a vision that she believes will bridge cultural gaps and foster global understanding of African heritage.
“My choice and interest is to add value to African dance and performance since I have the knowledge and talent,” she stated. “Now I am looking for international recognition, and I believe with God, everything will be materialized.”
Her ambition is to travel the world—both to enhance her own skills and to serve as a cultural ambassador, showcasing the beauty of African dance while inspiring younger generations to embrace and preserve their roots.
Nagasha has already made tangible progress toward her dream. Through earnings from her performances, she recently acquired a piece of land, a major step toward building the envisioned school that will train and nurture future generations of African performers.
With determination and unwavering faith, she continues to work toward her dream, hopeful that one day, African traditional dance will be celebrated and taught across continents as a vital component of the global cultural fabric.
