Museveni Tells Kazo to Embrace Wealth Creation as Nasasira Applauds NRM Gains

KAZO — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday pledged to consolidate government services in Kazo District as residents turned up in large numbers to welcome him on his latest campaign stop.

The President said the NRM government would continue expanding infrastructure and improving livelihoods in the cattle corridor, describing Kazo as a district with strong potential for commercial agriculture and sustained development.

The rally, held in Kazo Town Council, drew prominent local leaders, including former Works Minister John Nasasira, who credited the President for what he termed a long-standing commitment to steering Uganda from “backwardness to progress.”

Nasasira reminded the gathering that the area’s elevation to district status in 2019 followed a request made during the 2016 campaigns, and that Kazo has since benefited from increased government investment.

“We are grateful that after giving us a district, you continued to send development resources. Today we have electricity, water, health facilities, ICT services, and better roads,” Nasasira said.

He praised the NRM campaign team in Kazo as one of the most disciplined and organised in the country and expressed confidence in a decisive victory.

He also presented key community demands, including the tarmacking of the Kazo–Kyegegwa road, extension of water from Ibanda, and the establishment of a technical institute. Nasasira further applauded government scientists for innovations in vaccine development and tick resistance.

In his speech, President Museveni said peace and unity remain the foundation of Uganda’s transformation, crediting the NRM for ending the sectarianism that characterised previous regimes.

He cited major infrastructure improvements in the region, including roads linking Lyantonde, Kiruhura, Kazo, Ibanda, Kamwenge, and Fort Portal.

The President assured residents that the government would continue to deliver essential services. These include plans to pump water from Katonga, the upgrading of Kazo Health Centre IV to a district hospital, and commencement of works on the Kazo–Kyegegwa–Hapuyo road following agreements with Chinese contractors.

Turning to household income, President Museveni reiterated that personal wealth creation is distinct from national development and encouraged families to engage in commercial agriculture. He urged farmers in the cattle corridor to adopt modern livestock rearing approaches and large-scale feed production to increase output and profitability.

“Uganda is fortunate to have abundant coffee and milk. Our farmers are already benefiting, and we no longer import milk from Kenya,” he said, citing successes registered under Operation Wealth Creation.

Museveni also highlighted the growing contribution of industrial parks in job creation, pointing out that Mbale Industrial City now employs about 12,000 people while the Namanve Industrial Park hosts over 44,000 workers.

The President closed his address by urging NRM supporters to remain focused on wealth creation within their households, saying it is the only sustainable path to long-term prosperity for families across Uganda.
