The Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam, in partnership with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), AfriReps Consult, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other sector stakeholders, on Saturday, November 22, 2025, received a Mauritius travel-trade delegation at Entebbe International Airport for a week-long familiarisation tour aimed at strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation and expanding inter-market partnerships.
The team, which arrived aboard Kenya Airways, was welcomed to Uganda with the country’s signature hospitality, marking the start of an experiential tour of the Pearl of Africa’s landscapes, conservation sites and cultural heritage. The mission forms part of Uganda’s broader strategy to promote Africa-to-Africa tourism, deepen continental cooperation and position the country as a leading sustainable destination.
Speaking on behalf of the Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam, Ms. Laura Kahuga, First Secretary, extended a warm welcome to the delegation and encouraged them to feel at home as they explore Uganda’s diverse tourism offerings.
In her remarks, Ms. Kahuga highlighted the importance of the familiarisation mission as a milestone in advancing tourism diplomacy. She noted that Uganda’s natural endowments, conservation record and cultural richness offer significant potential for joint promotion and cross-border market expansion.
“This initiative reflects our shared commitment to strengthening African tourism corridors and enhancing cooperation anchored in sustainability, knowledge exchange and market diversification,” she said. “By hosting Mauritius’ top travel-trade representatives, Uganda demonstrates its readiness to cultivate new connections, shape fresh narratives and unlock broader opportunities across the region.”
During the seven-day tour, the delegation will visit some of Uganda’s most iconic attractions, including Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls National Park, Kibale Forest, the Batwa cultural experience and the famed gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The itinerary has been designed to showcase Uganda’s tourism strengths, conservation achievements and the sector’s role in the country’s economic diplomacy.
The mission will also involve engagements with tourism authorities, conservation leaders, cultural institutions and private-sector actors to explore structured collaboration, joint marketing initiatives and improved tourism connectivity between Uganda and Mauritius.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UTB noted that the visit underscores both countries’ commitment to advancing intra-African tourism and demonstrates the power of strategic partnerships in elevating the continent’s global tourism footprint. Uganda, they said, remains committed to building meaningful relationships—one partnership at a time.
