Bulambuli, Uganda: There was jubilation in Bulambuli District on Tuesday as Hon. Nyasio Wamakhuyu Mudimi, the Member of Parliament for Elgon Constituency, was officially nominated to contest as an independent candidate in the forthcoming general elections.
Hon. Mudimi’s nomination attracted thousands of enthusiastic supporters who filled the streets of Bulambuli Town, chanting his name, waving banners, and singing songs in celebration. The crowd’s energy reflected a district united behind a man many describe as “a servant leader betrayed by his own party.”
His decision to contest as an independent follows weeks of controversy surrounding the NRM party primaries, in which he was widely believed to have won the race for the party flag. Multiple sources within the district say Hon. Mudimi’s apparent victory was overturned under unclear circumstances, with the Bulambuli Electoral Commission later citing “gaps in the tally sheets.”
Party insiders, however, attribute the reversal to internal disagreements and alleged political interference. One of his rivals—who also doubles as the district NRM Secretary General—was captured in a widely circulated video claiming that the party leadership had decided to “discipline” Hon. Mudimi for previously challenging the status quo within local party structures.
Despite the setback, Hon. Mudimi’s support base has only grown stronger. Over recent weeks, hundreds of residents have visited his home, urging him to run as an independent. They argue that his track record in service delivery, transparency, and development stands above partisan interests.
Speaking after his nomination at the district headquarters, Hon. Mudimi expressed gratitude to his supporters and reaffirmed his commitment to servant leadership.
“Leadership is not about colors or positions; it’s about serving the people. I am here because the people have spoken,” he said to loud cheers from his supporters.
Hon. Mudimi is credited with championing several community initiatives in education, road infrastructure, and health services across Bulambuli. Many residents describe him as a leader who “works quietly but delivers visibly.”
As the campaign period officially begins, political observers say Mudimi’s independent bid could reshape the political landscape in Bulambuli, where discontent over the conduct of party primaries remains high.
For now, the people of Elgon Constituency appear united behind their representative, a man they say embodies truth, integrity, and unwavering dedication to the community.
