Top Story! Apac Hospital Officials Arrested Over Negligence, Mismanagement of Government Drugs

Apac, Uganda — A team from the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), in coordination with the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), has arrested several officials from Apac General Hospital over alleged abuse of office, negligence, and mismanagement of government drugs.

The arrests followed an impromptu monitoring visit led by Bazzukulu Coordinator Eyit Daniel Angura, Regional Coordinator Langol Prossy, and the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) Apac.

During the inspection, the team discovered boxes of government drugs left outside the hospital premises for two days, some of which had been damaged by rain.

“It was shocking to find valuable medicines lying in the open, drenched by rain. This level of negligence is unacceptable,” said Mr. Angura, adding that the drugs had been delivered two days earlier but were never taken into the store.

Some of the government drugs found dumped outside Apac General Hospital, drenched by rain.

Upon discovering the situation, the ONC team immediately alerted the RDC, who accompanied them back to the hospital and ordered the arrest of the responsible officers.

Those arrested included Dr. Akullo James, the Medical Superintendent (MS) of Apac General Hospital, Atoo Hope, the Inventory Officer, and Munu Eddy, the Assistant Inventory Officer.

Dr. Akullo was later released on police bond after recording a statement, while the other suspects remain in custody at Apac Central Police Station pending further investigations.

Meanwhile, this news website learnt that Dr. Akullo allegedly failed to pay porters for two consecutive quarters, an amount totaling over UGX 2 million and in protest, they reportedly refused to carry medicines into the store, leaving a consignment outside where it was later damaged by rain.

Mr. Angura reaffirmed the ONC’s commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring accountability in public institutions.

“We are closely monitoring the space to make sure such acts of negligence and misuse of public resources are dealt with decisively,” he said.

The incident has triggered public outrage, with residents expressing concern over the misuse of government supplies meant to serve the community.
