EC Opens Nominations for 2026 SIG Parliamentary Elections

The Uganda Electoral Commission (EC) has officially announced the dates for the nomination of candidates seeking to represent Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in Parliament.

In line with Section 8 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap 177, the EC has set Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October 2025 as the nomination days for candidates who wish to contest as Members of Parliament representing Older Persons, Persons with Disabilities, Workers, and Youths.

The nominations will take place at the Electoral Commission Headquarters, located at Plot 1-3/5 Seventh Street, Industrial Area, Kampala. The exercise will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on both days. This event marks a key step in Uganda’s democratic process as it gives representatives of special interest groups a chance to take part in shaping national policies and laws that affect their communities.

According to the EC, any aspiring candidate must be a citizen of Uganda and a registered voter. They must also meet all the requirements outlined in the official nomination guidelines provided by the Commission.

These guidelines vary for each group: Older Persons, Persons with Disabilities, Workers, and Youths, to ensure fairness and proper representation across all categories.

Aspiring candidates are encouraged to pick up nomination forms and guidelines from the EC Headquarters in Kampala. Alternatively, they can download soft copies from the official Electoral Commission website (ec.or.ug). This makes it easier for potential candidates across the country to access the necessary documents without facing long travel distances or delays.

The Electoral Commission has called upon all stakeholders, including political parties, organizations representing special interest groups, and the general public, to take note of the nomination dates and follow the proper procedures.

This step aims to promote transparency, inclusivity, and full participation in the upcoming elections under the theme #UgandaDecides2026 and #ECRoadmap2026.

As the 2026 elections draw nearer, the nomination of SIG representatives serves as a reminder that every voice matters in building Uganda’s democracy.

From the elderly to the youth, from workers to persons with disabilities, everyone has a seat at the table in shaping the future of the nation.
