OP-ED: Whether NUP Goes Into Alliance With PFF, President Museveni Will Triumph

By Akampa Tanbull

As I write this, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa is actively on the campaign trail. Unlike in Luwero and Nakaseke, his rallies in other regions, including Lango and now West Nile, have drawn massive crowds. Interestingly, even without the usual Kampala-based musicians, local entertainers have stepped up, thrilling audiences and promoting regional talent in the process.

It is clearer than ever that West Nile and the entire Northern region are firmly rallying behind President Museveni and the majority of NRM flag bearers ahead of the 2026 general elections.

However, voter apathy remains a critical issue that must be addressed nationwide if President Museveni is to secure an overwhelming victory.

Political parties such as PFF and ANT are reportedly working in alliance with NUP, with the intention of denying President Museveni the 50%+1 threshold required for a first-round win. Their strategy appears to be to portray him as a weakened candidate, force a re-run, and possibly incite unrest in key urban areas across Uganda.

It is evident that Bobi Wine, through his NUP network cells, is planning to mobilize groups within towns to create chaos and prematurely declare Mr. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu as the winner even before the Independent Electoral Commission announces official results.

My brothers and sisters, this would be a dangerous path to take. Peace-loving Ugandans will not tolerate such subversive actions, and the youth are no longer willing to be manipulated as they were between 2018 and 2021.

Elections come and go, but life must continue. It is not worth losing one’s life over political violence. Uganda belongs to all of us — regardless of political affiliation, religion, tribe, or gender.

We must remain each other’s keeper during and after elections.

For God and My Country, Uganda.
