The Electoral Commission (EC) has issued a strong warning to all presidential candidates and their supporters to strictly adhere to the Harmonized campaign programs that were previously agreed upon and signed by agents of the candidates.
According to Julius Mucungunzi, the Public Relations Officer for the EC, these programs clearly outline where each candidate is expected to campaign, the locations, and the days assigned.
He emphasized that respecting this schedule is key to avoiding clashes between candidates, their agents, or supporters.
Mucungunzi highlighted that all campaigns will start at 7 am and end at 6 pm each day. No candidate is allowed to campaign beyond these hours.
The EC urges all participants to conduct their campaigns peacefully, treating the electoral process as a serious matter, but without resorting to violence. He stressed that lawfulness is essential, calling on everyone to follow electoral laws and other relevant regulations to ensure that the country remains peaceful and orderly.
The EC also warned candidates and their teams against using language that incites hatred or spreading false information on digital platforms and social media. Ensuring a responsible online presence, respecting traffic guidelines, and abiding by the directions of law enforcement were also highlighted as key responsibilities for all participants.
Finally, the EC reminded everyone that while elections are important, the greater priority is to put Uganda first. The Commission urged all actors in the upcoming elections to focus on unity, peace, and progress, emphasizing that the country must remain stable and law-abiding even after the campaigns and voting are over.
