PLU’s Toyota Rallies Members to Back Museveni, NRM Flag Bearers in 2026 Race

The National Vice Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Michael Nuwagira, also known as Toyota, has called on supporters of their civic organization and lovers of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to respect the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party discipline and support President Yoweri Museveni in the run-up to the 2026 general elections.

Nuwagira was speaking during a press conference at the NRM secretariat along Kyadondo road in Kampala where the ruling party and PLU officially united to intensify campaign efforts in support of President Museveni as he seeks another term ahead of the 2026 General Election.

Nuwagira was flanked by the NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong , Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja Nsereko, Director for Finance and Administration at the NRM Secretariat, Hajjat Medina Naham, Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has summoned its Vice Chairman for Central Region, Frank Gashumba among other diginatiries from both PLU and NRM.

Leaders from both groups emphasised that they are all part of the ‘NRM family’ and must work together to consolidate support for their candidate.

Toyota said that the survival and strength of the party depended on unity it is their responsibility to ensure that NRM continues shining, and the only way to achieve this is by campaigning for NRM and President Museveni wherever they go.

Toyota encouraged PLU supporters to join in the celebrations for Museveni’s nomination at Kololo Independence grounds and observe the guidelines from the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Uganda Police.

The meeting was attended by David Kabanda, the Member of Parliament for Kasambya County, Secretary General of the PLU, Hon. Michael Mawanda the Director in charge of mobilisation.

The Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Richard Todwong urged Uganddans to turn up in big numbers at Kololo and celebrate the nomination of President Museveni.

Following the NRM’s internal processes, Museveni was cleared by the national Electoral Commission for the presidential elections scheduled for early 2026. The nomination for President Museveni is scheduled for September 23, 2025.
