Masaka, Uganda – The State Minister for Microfinance and NRM Vice Chairperson for the Central Region, Hajji Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, has called for the integration of patriotism education into Uganda’s national curriculum as a compulsory component, saying it is key to shaping responsible future leaders.
The minister made the remarks yesterday while officiating at the pass-out ceremony of 375 medical students who successfully completed a one-week patriotism course at Masaka School of Comprehensive Nursing.
In his address, Mr Kasolo congratulated the trainees for their commitment and urged them to carry the spirit of nationalism into their professional lives.
He further proposed that possession of a certificate in patriotism training should become a prerequisite for deployment into public service, stressing that government institutions ought to be staffed by individuals who embody national values.
Turning to challenges highlighted by the school’s administration, particularly the shortage of infrastructure, the minister pledged to engage stakeholders to find a lasting solution.
Mr Acheda Daniel, the deputy principal, had earlier noted that the school’s limited facilities continue to frustrate student enrollment.
Mr Kasolo also appealed to the graduates to embrace unity, avoid corruption and sectarian tendencies, and place the interests of the country above personal gain.
He urged them, as future medical practitioners, to “prioritize the health of the people before money.”
In his concluding remarks, the minister encouraged the graduates to serve as ambassadors of the NRM’s guiding principles, namely Pan-Africanism, Democracy and Socio-economic Transformation.
The pass-out ceremony was part of a broader government programme to instill patriotism among young Ugandans, especially those preparing to serve in critical sectors of the economy.
