‘Follow Election Guidelines’- Police Warns Politicians As EC Sets New Dates

Kampala, Uganda – Uganda Police has issued a public notice ahead of the nomination period for local government positions, including District and City Chairpersons, Lord Mayor, Councilors, and Special Interest Groups (SIGs), scheduled from September 3rd to 5th, 2025.

The advisory emphasizes the need for candidates and supporters to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the process.

In the notice, police urged all aspirants to strictly adhere to the guidelines set by the Electoral Commission. Supporters are similarly encouraged to comply with laws governing traffic and public order to avoid inconveniencing other road users or causing community disruptions.

Authorities highlighted the importance of maintaining a peaceful environment during nominations. Candidates have been warned against engaging in acts of hooliganism, including the recruitment or use of rogue youths, commonly referred to as “egaali,” who are often linked to intimidation or violence. Police called for full cooperation to ensure a smooth, orderly, and conflict-free nomination exercise.

The announcement reflects a strong commitment by law enforcement and electoral bodies to safeguard the integrity of the nomination process. By following these guidelines, candidates not only protect their campaigns but also contribute to a democratic and peaceful electoral process in Uganda.
