Electoral Commission Opens Nomination Process for Presidential, Local Government Candidates

Kampala, Uganda – The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the start of the nomination process for candidates contesting the 2025 General Elections.

Beginning Monday, 11th August 2025, presidential aspirants can collect nomination forms from the Electoral Commission headquarters in the 7th Street Industrial Area, marking the first step for those seeking the nation’s highest office.

Presidential hopefuls are required to gather signatures from at least 100 registered supporters in two-thirds of Uganda’s districts, equivalent to endorsements from 100 voters in a minimum of 98 districts. Supporter forms will be available from 11th to 24th August 2025, allowing candidates sufficient time to travel across the country and secure the necessary endorsements.

In addition to collecting supporter signatures, presidential aspirants must complete nomination forms with their personal details and review the official nomination guidelines to ensure compliance with all legal requirements.

For candidates aspiring to become Members of Parliament, including representatives of special interest groups, nomination forms are available online at the Electoral Commission’s website, www.ec.org.ug. Similarly, candidates for district and city chairperson positions can download their forms and guidelines from the same platform.

Local government councillors at the sub-county level, however, must collect their nomination forms directly from their district Electoral Commission offices.

The Commission also announced that nomination dates for Members of Parliament have been rescheduled to 15th and 16th October 2025, providing additional preparation time for candidates. All aspirants are urged to carefully review the information available online and adhere strictly to the rules.

This announcement marks a critical stage in Uganda’s electoral process, as candidates across the country begin their journey to represent their communities. Whether aspiring for the presidency, parliament, or local government leadership, the Electoral Commission emphasizes the importance of following the prescribed procedures to ensure eligibility and participation in the 2025 elections.
