Nakku Fiona, a determined contestant in the race for National Female Youth Member of Parliament under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), has embarked on a countrywide mobilization campaign aimed at amplifying youth voices and advancing a progressive agenda for young people in Uganda.
Positioning herself as a candidate rooted in integrity, inclusivity, and long-term vision, Nakku is gaining attention among the youth for her clear stance on empowerment, civic engagement, and economic opportunity. She has continued to attract growing support across districts by emphasizing the importance of youth-led leadership and policy participation.
Speaking at recent youth engagements, Nakku Fiona called on young Ugandans to actively claim their space in the nation’s development journey. “This campaign is not about me alone—it’s about all of us,” she said. “It’s time the youth became part of the conversation, part of the decisions, and part of the change.”
Her messaging has struck a chord with many, particularly her emphasis on creating platforms for youth innovation, participation, and leadership. She believes that empowering young people to express their views and take charge of their future is essential in addressing long-standing challenges such as unemployment, limited access to quality education, and underrepresentation in national governance.
Nakku’s campaign is also notable for its thematic focus on sustainable change, transparency in leadership, and the advancement of education and employment initiatives tailored to young people’s needs. “We cannot keep promising without delivering,” she remarked. “My goal is to work with others to ensure that young Ugandans have real opportunities, real training, and real jobs.”
In addition to her policy priorities, Nakku Fiona has built her platform on values she says define her leadership philosophy. Her name has been used by her supporters as an acronym to capture these ideals: ‘N’ for a National Vision that includes all youth, ‘A’ for Altruism and selfless service, ‘K’ for Keepership, signifying responsibility for future generations, another ‘K’ for Keystone, indicating her role in holding the movement together, and ‘U’ for Unifying, representing her goal of bridging divides among youth from different backgrounds.
While the race within the NRM remains competitive, Nakku’s message of inclusion and reform is drawing support from both rural and urban constituencies. Her campaign highlights the need to uplift marginalized groups, especially young women, many of whom face persistent challenges such as limited economic opportunities, gender-based violence, and inadequate access to reproductive health services.
“As a young woman myself, I understand what it means to be unheard. If elected, I will prioritize the issues affecting female youth to ensure they too can thrive,” Nakku said in one of her recent social media messages.
Her commitment to serve has been matched by her outreach efforts, which have taken her to universities, youth cooperatives, religious gatherings, and community-based forums. In every engagement, Nakku stresses the same message: “Your voice matters. Your vote matters. Our future matters.”
As the NRM gears up for its internal primary process to choose the flag bearer for the National Female Youth MP position, Nakku Fiona continues to present herself as a candidate who is not only ready to represent—but ready to lead.
Whether she emerges as the party’s nominee or not, her campaign is already igniting conversations among Uganda’s youth about the kind of leadership they deserve and the kind of future they want to build.
