The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially revised the dates for the display of the National Voters Register ahead of the 2025/2026 General Elections.
The exercise, initially set to run from April 17 to May 8, 2025, will now take place between April 25 and May 15, 2025.
EC Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, made the announcement during a media briefing held on April 16, 2025.
He noted that the rescheduling also applies to the display of the Voters Registers for Special Interest Groups, including Youths, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and Older Persons.
“Similarly, the display of the Voters Registers for Special Interest Groups, which was earlier scheduled to commence on April 17 and end on April 28, 2025, has been rescheduled. It will now start on April 25 and conclude on May 8, 2025,” Justice Byabakama said.
He emphasized that the display exercise is critical in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the National Voters Register, which forms the foundation for the conduct of free and fair elections.
The public is encouraged to use the opportunity to verify their registration details, confirm their polling stations, and report any errors, omissions, or ineligible entries.
Justice Byabakama urged all stakeholders in the electoral process, political parties, civil society, the media, and the general public, to actively participate in the exercise and adhere to the guidelines that will be provided.
“This process is not only about individual verification but also helps in strengthening the transparency and credibility of our electoral system,” he noted.
The Electoral Commission is constitutionally mandated under Article 61(1)(e) of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda and Sections 18 and 20 of the Electoral Commission Act (Cap 176) to compile, maintain, revise, and update the National Voters Register.
The display of the updated register is conducted in accordance with Section 26 of the same Act.
The 2025/2026 electoral calendar is gradually taking shape, with the EC reaffirming its commitment to a transparent, inclusive, and well-organized electoral process.
