Uganda Police, alongside sister security agencies, are investigating the circumstances surrounding a gruesome case of mob justice in Kassanda District that left a man severely injured.
According to Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson Racheal Kawala, the incident occurred in Kalagala Village, where a mob attacked 40-year-old Ssengima Bosco, a casual laborer from Katikandegeya LC1 in Kijuna Sub-county.
Preliminary findings indicate that Ssengima was allegedly caught stealing coffee from a plantation owned by a one Luboyera. Reports suggest that enraged residents, upon apprehending him, resorted to extreme violence, using pangas to sever both of his hands.
The police were alerted by the LC1 chairperson of Katikandegeya and responded swiftly. Ssengima was rescued and is currently receiving treatment at Kassanda Health Center IV.
Authorities revealed that the victim had allegedly been involved in multiple incidents of coffee theft from the same plantation.
Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Kawala condemned the act of mob justice and urged residents to report suspected crimes to the police rather than taking the law into their own hands.
