Police Investigate Death of 15-Year-Old Pupil in Sugarcane Clash

Police in Kamuli have arrested a sugarcane vendor following the tragic death of a 15-year-old pupil, Bakaki Mathias, after a violent altercation over sugarcane in Kibeto-Buyima zone, Luzinga Parish, Kamuli District.

According to Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Kasadha Micheal, Bakaki, a student at Five Star Nursery and Primary School Luzinga, was walking home with friends when they encountered a heap of sugarcane guarded by Balisanyuka Jonan.

When the group attempted to take some, Balisanyuka reacted aggressively, chasing them away. While Bakaki’s friends fled, he remained behind. In a moment of rage, Balisanyuka allegedly assaulted him, causing him to lose consciousness.

Bakaki was rushed to a nearby clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Following the incident, police arrested Balisanyuka, who now faces charges related to the boy’s death.

Authorities have launched a full investigation, and ASP Kasadha has assured the public that justice will be served.
