Kampala, Uganda – A coordinated security operation involving the Uganda Police Force and the army has led to the arrest of more than 30 suspected members of the notorious Kasoro gang, a criminal group accused of terrorizing residents in Lubaga and Nansana municipalities, Wakiso District.
The intelligence-led operations were carried out in key hotspots, including Katooke A and Katooke B in Wamala Parish, Nansana Municipality, and Monalisa Bar in Lubaga.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that among those arrested are Kawoya Vincent, Kitayibwa Wycliffe, Muhammad Ali, Abdil Wolly, and Eriya Kula—individuals believed to be behind a series of criminal activities in Lubaga.
In a separate operation last night, security forces apprehended over 25 suspects in the Katooke area of Nansana. Authorities reported that several stolen items and housebreaking tools were seized during the crackdown.
Investigators say most of those arrested are linked to the Kasolo gang, a well-known criminal network associated with robberies, phone snatching, and bag theft in the city. Additional evidence recovered at the crime scenes included marijuana and burglary implements.
The suspects have been detained and will face court proceedings.
Kampala has long struggled with organized criminal groups, many of which have operated in informal settlements, targeting business owners and commuters.
Among these were the infamous Kifeesi gang, which was active in Kampala and Mukono, along with other criminal networks such as Bad Life, B13, XOI, Kasolo Boys, Happy Street, and Naguru Arrow Boys.
Security agencies have in recent years intensified efforts to dismantle these gangs, bringing temporary relief to affected communities.
However, law enforcement officials caution that continued vigilance is necessary to curb the resurgence of criminal activities.
