In a shocking and tragic turn of events, a security guard employed by Ryayo Security Group Ltd. opened fire on his colleagues, killing two, before ending his own life.
The incident occurred last evening at approximately 9 p.m. at Shumuk Aluminium Ltd., located in Nakawa Division.
Preliminary investigations by the police reveal that the suspect, identified as Machugayi Emmanuel, accessed a firearm from one of his colleagues. Without any apparent provocation, he shot and killed two fellow security guards: Kakyebezi Ashiraf, aged 21, and Owechi Stephen.
After carrying out the deadly attack, Machugayi reportedly retreated. Realizing he was surrounded by security forces, he turned the gun on himself, committing suicide on the spot.
The Jinja Road Police Division swiftly responded to the scene, deploying a team of officers to investigate the matter. The bodies of the three individuals were recovered and transported to Mulago KCCA Mortuary for postmortem examinations.
During the investigation, authorities recovered two rifles and several cartridges from the scene. Eyewitness accounts were also recorded by the first responders and other security personnel present at the time of the incident.
Police have yet to determine the motive behind the shooting, as investigations are still ongoing. The sudden and violent nature of the incident has left the community in shock, raising questions about workplace safety and the mental health of security personnel.
