On Thursday, the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) officially released the 2024 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results, with boys maintaining their lead over girls in overall performance, except in English, where girls excelled.
According to UNEB, 84,301 candidates, representing 10.7%, scored Division One—a decline compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, 397,589 candidates achieved Division Two, 165,284 in Division Three, and 75,556 in Division Four. However, 64,251 candidates (8.2%) failed the exams and will not advance to Senior One.
Despite the drop in Division One passes, UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo reported an overall improvement in performance. “This year, 91.8% of candidates passed the PLE, compared to 88.0% in 2023,” he noted.
As usual, schools from Kampala, Wakiso, and Masaka districts stood out for their excellent results, with several achieving the coveted 4-in-4 aggregate score. These districts continue to set the bar for academic excellence in Uganda.
