Major Drug Bust at Entebbe International Airport as Cocaine Seized

Entebbe International Airport was the scene of a major drug interception on January 3, 2025, as Ugandan customs officials, in collaboration with the Special Forces Command (SFC) and the Anti-Narcotics Police Unit, seized a large quantity of cocaine.

The contraband, which was being smuggled into the country, marked one of the biggest drug seizures in recent months.

Authorities confirmed the arrest of a suspect believed to be a Nigerian national. The individual is now in custody as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the smuggling network.

The operation has sparked widespread praise from Ugandans on social media, who lauded the security forces for their vigilance and efforts to keep drugs off the streets.

This development coincides with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s recent call to Ugandan youths to steer clear of drugs and gambling, warning that these vices are derailing the lives of many young people.

Speaking during a public address, the President encouraged youths to leverage government programs aimed at wealth creation and economic empowerment.

“The government can only provide a conducive environment for Ugandans to thrive. It is up to our people, especially the youth, to take advantage of these initiatives to generate wealth,” President Museveni said.

The President also criticized opposition figures for what he described as misleading claims that the government has failed to create jobs. He reiterated that the government’s role is to enable opportunities for economic growth rather than directly employing every citizen.

The successful drug bust and the President’s remarks come at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to combat societal challenges and promote productivity among the youth.
