Precious Tumuhirwe, a 35-year-old housemaid, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to the aggravated torture of a four-year-old girl in Kikoko Zone, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
The horrific incident, which occurred on December 27, 2024, was captured on camera and later went viral on social media.
The footage sparked widespread outrage, leading to calls for Tumuhirwe’s immediate arrest and demands for a life sentence.
She was arrested in Kabale District on December 29 and transported to Kampala the following day.
After being held at Kira Police Station, she was presented before the Kira Magistrates Court on January 3, 2024, where Chief Magistrate Shallon Niwaha presided over the case.
Tumuhirwe pleaded guilty, was convicted, and subsequently sentenced to 40 years in prison.
The case has reignited discussions on child abuse and the need for stricter regulations on domestic worker background checks.
