Rev. Fr. Constantine Rupiny, formerly the Rector of Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary in Alokolum, has been appointed as the new Bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese.
The announcement, made by the Archbishop of Gulu Ecclesiastical Province, has been met with widespread joy among Christians in the region.
John Bosco Okura, a member of Nebbi Cathedral Parish, expressed gratitude: “We have been without a bishop for a long time. Thank God the Pope has found one for us.”
Acayerach Mary, from Pakwach Catholic Parish, added: “It’s a great joy to receive another Bishop. Finally, God has remembered us.”
The announcement comes after the position of Bishop for Nebbi Diocese fell vacant last year when Bishop Raphael p’Mony Wokorach was elevated to Archbishop of Gulu Ecclesiastical Province.
Bishop Rupiny’s Journey
Born on 10 November 1974 in Parombo, Nebbi Diocese, Rev. Fr. Rupiny was ordained a priest on 28 August 2004. He holds advanced degrees, including a Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology from Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, Poland.
Over his career, he has served as Parish Priest, Formator, Professor, Vice President of the Presbyteral Council, and Vice Rector, among other roles.
Since September 2023, he has been the Rector of Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary.
Nebbi Diocese Leadership Timeline
- Bishop Raphael p’Mony Wokorach: Appointed Bishop of Nebbi in 2021; elevated to Archbishop of Gulu in 2023.
- Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok: Led Nebbi Diocese from 2011 to 2018, then transferred to Lira Diocese.
