The Public Service Commission has released a shortlist of 19 candidates vying for the role of Deputy Executive Director at the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), a position deemed vital in shaping the city’s governance and development.

The shortlisted candidates are expected to undergo competence and aptitude assessments, with the date and location of these exams to be announced shortly.

This selection stage draws candidates from diverse professional backgrounds, reflecting a highly competitive process for a key leadership role within one of Uganda’s most significant public institutions.

Among the shortlisted candidates are notable professionals including Adwek Makmot Jimmy, Ajer Basil, and Asubo Sydney, each bringing varied expertise to the position. Asubo, who was also shortlisted for the KCCA Executive Director position, has previously demonstrated a strong commitment to public service.

Ajer Basil, currently a Director at the Ministry of Tourism, has previously served as Acting Executive Director at the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), lending him experience in economic development and public management.

Meanwhile, Adwek Makmot brings infrastructure expertise to the table, having served as a regional manager at the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA). Other prominent candidates include Irumba Richard, Karuhanga Bernadette Nambi, and Kawesi Daniel Christopher.

The shortlist notably reflects a balanced mix of experience and gender diversity, with candidates such as Mudondo Harriet, former KCCA Director of Gender, Community Services, and Production, also among those selected.

The role of Deputy Executive Director at KCCA, classified under the KCCA2 scale, is essential to KCCA’s efforts to enhance urban management and service delivery amid public calls for improvement.

The Deputy Executive Director will be tasked with supervising critical directorates and departments, including those responsible for education and social services, gender and community development, public health and environment, physical planning, and engineering and technical services.

Furthermore, the role oversees key support departments, such as Information and Communication Technology, Public and Corporate Affairs, Procurement and Disposal Unit, and Research and Strategy Management, ensuring the effective coordination of KCCA’s activities.

This recruitment process aims to bolster KCCA’s leadership, with the appointed candidate expected to work closely with the Executive Director to transform Kampala into a modern, efficient, and inclusive city.

The upcoming assessments will identify the candidate best equipped with the skills, experience, and vision required to drive this transformation.
