The refreshed Tesla Model Y, codenamed “Juniper,” has been sighted in China, showcasing notable changes to the vehicle’s exterior.
The revamped design is expected to debut in China first, with deliveries potentially beginning next year.
While Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that the new Model Y will not launch in 2024, sightings suggest the automaker is testing the updated model, reminiscent of the recent redesign of the Model 3.
The prototype, seen in Shanghai, featured front and rear bumper covers concealing its new elements, though some differences were evident.
The most prominent update appears to be the addition of a full-width LED light bar at the rear, a feature similar to the Tesla Cybercab Robotaxi revealed earlier this month.
The revised lighting design, along with a split headlight setup at the front, signals a modernised aesthetic for Tesla’s top-selling SUV.
While it’s unclear when this refreshed Model Y will arrive in the United States, the updated design is likely to be introduced in the American market sometime in 2025, as Musk has emphasised the vehicle won’t make its U.S. debut this year.
