Post Bank, in collaboration with the West Nile Private Sector Development Promotion Centre Ltd (WENIPS), has launched the Wendi Mobile financial platform to support financial inclusion in Uganda’s West Nile region.
This initiative aims to bring over 7,500 SAACOs and village savings and loan associations from Nebbi, Yumbe, Arua, Koboko, Moyo, and Adjumani into digital savings and lending.
Launched by Post Bank in 2023, Wendi is a mobile wallet designed to help underserved communities manage savings and access financial services without needing traditional bank accounts.
The platform allows users to save, borrow, and transact funds, with an added 10% daily interest on savings.

At the October 28 press launch, Patrick Okwi Osakan, Post Bank’s regional distribution head for Northern and West Nile, urged local communities to embrace the platform to strengthen saving habits.
The partnership expects to leverage West Nile’s improving electricity infrastructure to boost digital savings solutions.
WENIPS CEO Onegi Jenaro Oringi highlighted Wendi’s potential to empower groups, including youth, women, and farmers, by fostering secure and accessible financial management.
He says the platform provides services such as loans and savings while promoting financial literacy in the community.
“Wendi will provide this group with a user-friendly digital system, affordable services, and secure management of their money,” Onegi noted. “Through Wendi, one can get a loan, save money, and access many other services that the community currently lacks.”

The Assistant Resident District Commissioner of Nebbi, Ronald Owacgiu, welcomed the initiative as aligning with Uganda’s Vision 2040 goals for economic development.
Local SAACO members, like Muhammad Adrisi from Nebbi, praised the platform, noting that it addresses long-standing issues of secure money management within savings groups.
With over 1.3 million subscribers nationwide, Wendi is accessible via app stores or by dialling *229# on mobile.
It also supports payments for national programmes, including the Parish Development Model and relief fund disbursements.
