Man Stabs Wife to Death in Wakiso, Surrenders to Authorities

Uganda Police is investigating a tragic domestic violence incident in Wakiso District, where a man allegedly stabbed his wife to death following a heated argument.

The suspect, identified as Saadi Maganda, a resident of Kanyanya zone in Ndejje parish, is accused of killing his 20-year-old wife, Faridah Aliba, during a confrontation on Friday.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, Maganda stabbed Aliba in the neck, resulting in her immediate death.

Shortly after the incident, the suspect surrendered to local authorities. Police were called to the scene and intervened, rescuing Maganda from an angry mob that had gathered.

Owoyesigyire confirmed that the police secured the crime scene and recovered crucial evidence, including a blood-stained knife believed to have been used in the attack.

“We responded quickly after receiving a call from the area’s Defence secretary. The crime scene was secured, and critical evidence, including a knife and a stone, was recovered,” he said.

This incident follows another domestic murder last month, where 19-year-old Sharon Rukundo was killed by her husband in Katwe. The suspect in that case was lynched by a mob.

Police have noted that domestic violence remains a significant issue, with 14,691 cases recorded in 2023, though this marked a 17% decrease from the previous year. Common causes of domestic violence include disputes over property, neglect, substance abuse, and infidelity. Authorities are urging families to seek help before conflicts escalate to violence.
