Police in Masaka have detained one of their own, CPL Richard Otim, 55, over allegations of raping a bar maid at Paradise Bar in Kyabakuza.
The officer is attached to the Kimaanya Kabonera police division headquarters in Masaka City.
The victim, a 29-year-old Muganda woman whose identity is being protected, works as both a bar attendant and a sex worker at the establishment.
It is alleged that CPL Otim entered her room while she was asleep, covered her mouth to prevent her from calling for help, and forcibly engaged in unprotected sexual intercourse.
After the incident, the officer fled the scene. The victim immediately informed her employer, who advised her to report the matter to the police.
The case was registered under Kim Kab SD ref 09/02/10/2024 and later recorded as CRB:294/2024. Both the victim and the suspect have undergone medical examinations as part of the investigation.
Investigators revealed that CPL Otim was a frequent customer at the bar, well known to staff and patrons alike.
