Uganda Police with sister security agencies in Bushenyi district have detained two men on suspicion of murdering their 52-year-old mother, Kyomugisha Janiva, in an incident that occurred on the night of September 11, 2024, in Ruharo village, Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality.

The suspects, Galeeba John and Tumwebaze David, are accused of ambushing Kyomugisha as she returned from Omuruhita trading center around 9:30 pm.

According to Martial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi police, the two allegedly strangled their mother to death before fleeing the scene.

A sniffer dog was deployed to the crime scene, and it tracked the suspects’ scent back to the family home, leading to their arrest.

A postmortem conducted at Ishaka Adventist Hospital revealed signs of strangulation, including marks on Kyomugisha’s neck, soft tissue injuries on her forehead, and burst blood vessels in her face and neck.

Further investigations suggest that the scene where Kyomugisha’s body was found may not have been the actual murder location, as there were no signs of a struggle at the site. Authorities believe her body might have been moved after the killing.

Pankalasio Ndyanabo, the LC2 chairperson for Ruharo ward, revealed that Kyomugisha had recently been in conflict with her sons over their desire to sell family land, a dispute that could have led to the tragic event.
