Parliament Releases Funeral Program for Hon. Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke

Kampala, Uganda — The Parliament of Uganda has officially released the funeral program for the late Hon. Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, following consultations with the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs, her family, the national organizing committee, and other stakeholders.

The nation will bid farewell to the distinguished leader in a series of events scheduled from Monday, 9th September 2024, to Thursday, 12th September 2024.

According to the official program, Hon. Mateke’s body will be received at her home in Nsangi, Wakiso District, on Monday, 9th September 2024, at 3 PM.

This will be followed by a church service at 5 PM, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather and pay their respects.

On Tuesday, 10th September 2024, a church service will be held at All Saints Cathedral, Kampala, starting at 8 AM.

At noon, her body will be transported to Parliament, where a special sitting will be held in her honor.

Parliamentarians will commemorate her service to the country before the body returns to A-Plus funeral home for further arrangements.

The body will then depart for her hometown of Nyakabingo, Kisoro District, on Wednesday, 11th September 2024.

A council session is scheduled for 2 PM, followed by a church service from 4 PM to 6 PM.

An overnight vigil will be held, allowing family, friends, and local leaders to pay their final respects.

The final rites will take place on Thursday, 12th September 2024, with a church service in Nyakabingo, followed by the burial.Hon.

Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, a revered public servant, will be remembered for her commitment to her constituents and the nation.

The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, confirmed the program and urged the public to join in commemorating Hon. Mateke’s life and legacy.
