Uganda’s She Cranes star, Faridah Kadondi, has secured a professional contract with Nottingham Forest Netball Club, marking a significant milestone in her sporting career.
The English club, set to debut in the England Netball Super League, officially announced her signing on Wednesday.
Kadondi, expressing her excitement, described the move as a long-held dream realized. “Playing at the international level has always been my goal. I believe in my abilities, and I’m committed to working hard to help my team achieve success and win titles,” she said.
The versatile goal defender, who also excels as a goalkeeper, joins Nottingham Forest from Uganda’s Weyonje Netball Club. She has also previously played for the KCCA Leopards in the National Basketball League.
Fred Mugerwa, head coach of Uganda’s national team, hailed the move as a proud moment for Uganda. “Kadondi’s signing is fantastic news, not just for her but for the entire country. She has the talent to succeed at this level, and this will open more opportunities for other Ugandan players to be recognized internationally,” Mugerwa noted.
Kadondi was an integral part of the She Cranes squad that finished fifth at the 2023 Netball World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa.
She also earned recognition as Player of the Match in Uganda’s encounter against Australia during the 2022 Fast5 World Series.
Kadondi now joins a growing list of Ugandan netballers playing professionally, including Peace Proscovia Nwokocha and Stella Oyella in England, and Mary Nuba in Australia.
