A local brew (waragi) distiller in Rwampara district, Allen Tusehmereirwe was killed after a drum she was using to distil burst into flames.

Tusehmereirwe, a resident of Rurama Cell in Bugamba sub-county, was distilling waragi with her husband, Nelson Orikimanya, in a swamp when the accident happened on Thursday.

According to Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region police spokesperson, the drum, which had been in use for three years, developed a leakage due to improper sealing during the distillation process. The pressure caused the drum to explode, blowing off the cover, which struck Tusehmereirwe in the back.

Yosam Karyango Mirembe, the chairperson of Rurama Cell, described the impact as severe, noting that the drum hit Tusehmereirwe with such force that it nearly shattered her head.

Orikimanya, says that they have been using the distilling drum for the last three years.
